When a Death Occurs

If your loved one was under hospice care:
- Contact the hospice nurse, who will come to your home to pronounce the death.
- Ask the nurse to call Simplicity Cremation at (888) 959-9101, and we will dispatch our staff immediately.
If your loved one was not under hospice care:
- Dial 911 to notify law enforcement, who will pronounce the death.
- They will determine whether the case requires the coroner’s involvement or if Simplicity Cremation can proceed with receiving your loved one into our care.

What to Do When a Loved One Passes in a Hospital or Care Facility
- The nurse or physician will come to the room to pronounce the death.
- Before we can dispatch to a hospital, our cremation paperwork must be completed, as it includes the required release form.
- Ask the facility to contact Simplicity Cremation at (888) 959-9101.
- Depending on the facility’s protocols, we will dispatch our staff as soon as authorization is received.

Once we receive a written release from the next of kin, we will proceed with bringing your loved one into our care.
Please inform the Medical Examiner or Coroner that you have chosen Simplicity Cremation for the arrangements.

Our Cremation Process.
Step 1: Arrange a Cremation
- After all arrangements are made, we work to bring your loved one into our care as soon as possible.
Step 2: Registration of Death
- We coordinate with your loved one’s hospice or doctor’s office to submit the necessary documents to the local county and state health departments for death registration. This process typically takes 2 to 7 business days. The registration process can take between 2 to 7 business days.
Step 3: Cremation
- Simplicity Cremation provides dignified direct cremation at our facilities in San Bernardino and Palm Springs.
- Cremation cannot proceed until the Registration of Death is completed and filed with the local and state health departments. Typically, cremation occurs within 10 days after registration and receipt of the California Disposition Permit.
Step 4: Return of Your Loved One
- Once Cremation has taken place. We will follow through with the instructions directed by the Next of Kin.
- Typically when receiving cremated remains at one of our offices. Our Staff will contact the person(s) indicated by the Next of Kin to schedule a release time, date, and office appointment.
